Microneedle patch for immunization of immunocompromised hosts
Influenza virus is a major cause of morbidity and mortality particularly in the immunocompromised host. When compared to the general population, influenzarelated hospitalization rates are four times higher and mortality ten times higher in patients with cancer [1]. The Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) recommends the administration of inactivated influenza vaccine (IIV) annually to ...
متن کاملToward Self‐Powered Wearable Adhesive Skin Patch with Bendable Microneedle Array for Transdermal Drug Delivery
A wearable adhesive skin patch for transdermal drug delivery is developed with bendable microneedles, dry adhesive and triboelectric energy harvester (TEH). The bendable microneedle array can overcome the needle breakage issue. The dry adhesive can realize a conformal attachment. The TEH can generate power when attached on flat skin or joint to power active components to be integrated in the fu...
متن کاملUpdate on rapid diagnostic testing for malaria.
To help mitigate the expanding global impact of malaria, with its associated increasing drug resistance, implementation of prompt and accurate diagnosis is needed. Malaria is diagnosed predominantly by using clinical criteria, with microscopy as the current gold standard for detecting parasitemia, even though it is clearly inadequate in many health care settings. Rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) h...
متن کاملAlternate vehicles for diagnostic patch testing: an update.
AIM The aim of the present study was to review the literature subsequent to 2001 for recent information on alternate vehicles for diagnostic patch testing. AIM Patch testing is a standard tool in dermatoallergology used in particular in the diagnostic process of allergic contact dermatitis. While petrolatum is employed in most cases, the way vehicles can influence results may not be neglected...
متن کاملNeedle-free skin patch vaccination method for anthrax.
Three immunizations of mice with recombinant protective antigen (rPA) by transcutaneous immunization (TCI) induced long-term neutralizing antibody titers that were superior to those obtained with aluminum-adsorbed rPA. In addition, rPA alone exhibited adjuvant activity for TCI. Forty-six weeks after completion of TCI, 100% protection was observed against lethal anthrax challenge.
